Cookie Policy
Last updated: October 2026
This page explains what DesiWish (desiwish.in) stores in your browser, why, and how you can switch it off. Our rule is simple: apart from the essentials, nothing is switched on without your permission.
What are cookies?
Cookies and "local storage" are small text files a website keeps in your browser, so it can remember your choices next time or count how many people use it.
1. Essentials (always on)
These stay on your device and are never sent to us. The website does not work properly without them:
- Language choice (
dw_lang): whether you picked Hindi or English, so the same language opens next time. - Theme choice (
desi_theme): auto, dark or light. - Keys to delete your greetings (
dw_mine): so a greeting can be deleted only from the phone it was made on. - Cookie choice (
dw_cookie_consent): whether you allowed Analytics and personalised ads or not.
2. Counting (without cookies)
We count how many greetings are made, opened, shared or reacted to on Cloudflare. No cookie is used for this, and it never includes your name, message or IP address. To stop spam, a scrambled form (hash) of your network address is kept, and it changes every day.
3. Analytics (only with your permission)
If we switch on Google Analytics 4, it loads only after you press "Allow all" in the cookie box or switch on "Analytics". It tells us which pages are viewed most, whether people visit from a phone or a computer, and roughly which city a visit came from.
It does not give us your name, phone number, email or full IP address. Google Analytics stores these cookies: _ga and _ga_<ID> (for up to 2 years). How Google handles this information is explained in Google's Privacy Policy.
If you press "Essential only", Google Analytics is not loaded at all. If Global Privacy Control is switched on in your browser, we treat it as a "no" to both Analytics and personalised ads, and do not even ask.
4. Ads: Google AdSense and other ad companies
To keep DesiWish free we may show ads from Google AdSense and, in the future, other trusted ad companies. Ad companies' cookies (such as Google's __gads, __gpi) do two jobs:
- Personalised ads: showing ads based on your interests. This happens only with your permission, that is when you press "Allow all" or switch on "Personalised ads".
- Without permission: you still see ads, but they are not personalised, and we signal Google to keep ad cookies off (Google Consent Mode). Even for these ads Google may use limited data to prevent fraud and to count how often an ad was shown.
Read how Google uses information in ads here. You can also turn off personalised ads in Google Ads Settings. If we add a new ad company, its name will be added to this page and it will follow the same permission rule.
5. Other services
- Google Fonts: the website's lettering comes from Google Fonts. While loading a font Google can see your IP address, but no cookie is stored for this.
- Cloudflare: our website runs on Cloudflare. To protect against attacks, Cloudflare may set a security cookie when needed. Cloudflare Web Analytics also counts page visits — without cookies, without fingerprinting you and without following you across websites.
- WhatsApp and other apps: the "Send on WhatsApp" and share buttons take you to that app, where its own policy applies.
- DESI ID: if you log in with DESI ID, the
desi_sessioncookie (30 days, or until you log out) keeps you logged in, and thedesi_statecookie (10 minutes) is a security check during login. They are needed for login and are set only if you log in. Your DESI ID account itself follows DESITechnology's own cookie policy.
How to change your choice
- Press "Cookie settings" in the footer of any page to change your choice at any time. When you withdraw permission, the Google Analytics and ad cookies are deleted.
- You can clear all cookies and site data from your browser settings. Note: this also removes the keys to delete your greetings.
- To block Google Analytics on every website, you can use Google's opt-out add-on.
